Effective January 1, 2015, Ohio GT has ended support for RedHat 9 for use with RTIs.
This applies to the following engravers: All 700-series, 820, 850, GS D engravers, and GS 857
All development by RedHat for this OS ended in 2007. While we continued to support RedHat for many years, this support has now ended. Beginning with Collage RTI software version 4.2, new versions of RTI software cannot be installed on a RTI running RedHat 9.
An existing RTI computer with RedHat 9 OS can continue to be used with the version of RTI software that is currently running on it. However, if the Collage Layout Software is upgraded the RTI software must also be upgraded, and if the RTI has RedHat 9 OS, then the OS must be upgraded to Fedora OS.
The Fedora OS can be installed on existing RTI hardware. As when installing any OS, this action removes all existing information on the computer, so backing up configuration information must be done first. Installation of the Fedora OS and Collage software and configuring the computer requires a visit from an authorized technician.
Option 1: If the RTI computer hardware is old, we recommend upgrading the hardware. This includes a new Linux computer, Fedora OS and engraver card. Customer’s existing RTI software version will be installed. Customer’s existing dongle will be used. The customer’s configuration (if provided) will be preloaded on the new computer for a fast exchange of computers and minimal downtime. Installation is not included.
Option 2: On-site installation of Fedora operating system on existing hardware, with re-installation of customer’s current RTI software and configuration. Installation is not included. This option requires on-site presence of authorized service technician, and may result in considerable down-time: loading a new operating system and software can take a lot of time. Note that we do not recommend this option since the customer’s computer is old and downtime can be long.
Note: On 1 January 2014, we issued an End of Life Notice for RedHat 9 on embedded computers (GS HS and GS 827).
Contact your agent or Ohio GT for information and pricing on upgrading an RTI running RedHat 9.
